Welcome to
LynnWoodsBouldering.com
Lynn Woods Reservation is one of
Eastern Massachusetts' best kept secrets. At 2200 acres, it is the
second largest municipally-owned park in the United States. Located
just 10 miles north of Downtown Boston, Lynn Woods is a recreational
paradise, home to roughly 40 miles of trails, flourishing wildlife,
historical structures, pristine reservoirs,
horseback riding, unique geology, thousands of granite boulders/outcrops, and
arguably some of the best freeride mountain biking terrain in the
entire country! Unlike the Middlesex Fells (a popular state-managed
park also north of Boston), it is possible to hike, ride, or run in
Lynn Woods without ever seeing another soul! It is indeed easy to
forget how close you are to the city when seeking adventures in Lynn
Woods.
This site is dedicated to the amazing
bouldering found at Lynn Woods. Most New England rock climbers have
only recently learned about the immense potential for this
bouldering area, but already thousands of boulder problems have been
established. Much of the hype surrounding Lynn Woods was generated
when the first version of our
Lynn
Woods North-Side Bouldering Map
was posted online in February 2007. Since then, interest in Lynn
Woods has exploded and the park is slowly becoming a destination for
climbers that would normally boulder at Lincoln Woods in Rhode
Island or Pawtuckaway State Park in New Hampshire. The size of the
park is intimidating to first-time visitors though, and the prime
boulders are well-hidden amongst the trees and rolling hills, so you
will need a map and a boulder-sniffing sense of direction to quickly find "the goods".
We've got you covered on the map end, but you're on your own as far
as sense of direction goes.
The current
Lynn
Woods bouldering map is the
most complete and accurate map available for the area north of
Walden Pond (the main pond that sits roughly in the middle of the
park). Boulders, water bodies, terrain, and all trails are
illustrated. A map of the scarcer south-side bouldering and a
mountain biking map showing the locations of big drops and downhill
runs will be available soon.
We hope you enjoy bouldering at Lynn
Woods! Please
